On Thursday crews began dismantling the Zippin Pippin rollercoaster at the former Libertyland amusement park in Memphis, TN. Work crews are clearing the land for redevelopment. Libertyland closed in October 2005. Zippin Pippin stood without maintenance exposed to the elements since then, rotting away. In November crews removed a small portion of the coaster ride to determine if it was salvageable. An expert told the city of Memphis that it would take millions of dollars to restore or rebuild the ride to bring it back to an operating condition.
Zippin Pippin was built in 1912 and long known as the favorite ride of the legend Elvis Presley.

The mayor of Green Bay called in to stop the "dismantling." He's coming down to look at the coaster and see if it would be a good fit for an expanding park up there.
I though that Green Bay park was interested in Starliner?
The last part of it came down. It was too unstable after the mayor of Green Bay visited it.
Such a shame. I hear the Chippewa Lake Coaster is also finally being scrapped. Though in its condition, it was for the best, though there will be no more new haunting photos of the lost park in the woods.
RIP Zippin Pippin
