News, Offbeat: Porky Pig attacked at Great America

Posted Wednesday, July 14th, 2010 at 1:45 pm by Wes

sixflagsTwo Six Flags Great America employees were ejected from the theme park Monday afternoon after allegedly attacking a female employee dressed as “Porky Pig.”

Taras Sikalchuk, 20, and Dmytro Petrychenko, 19, took a photo with Porky Pig about 2:20 p.m. Monday at Six Flags Great America, and then punched the mascot in the head 10 to 15 times, Gurnee police said Tuesday.

Both men are employees of the park and were visiting on their day off.

The suspects denied the attack, but witnesses confirmed the story, police said.

The 24-year-old woman inside the mascot costume suffered headaches and a stiff neck, but did not require hospitalization, Sgt. Ward, of the Gurnee police said.

The sergeant said the mascots are accompanied by a security guard, and attacks on mascots happen once or twice a year.

Not gonna lie, this is one of the more fantastic headlines I've ever seen.
    But it is unfortunate.

I hope that others who saw this happen, or hear about it, won't get any ideas.

  3. Wes's Avatar Wes says:

I thought it was strange the police said that the mascots have security with them, but security wasn't even mentioned as helping to stop the attacks.

And I always thought the last place you would ever want to be on your day off is the place where you work.

  5. Katie's Avatar Katie says:

Not just that, but most costumed characters are female (the suits are easier to wear). Why would you as an employee of the same company want to hit a fellow employee? And B...why the hell would you hit a woman? Pisses me off for sure.

Biggest idiots. I know they could get a few punches in before being ripped off by security. Scum. Not New Jersey as well.

This is just beyond sad. I mean committing a crime is never ok. But it's just scary that your own co-workers are carrying out those crimes against you. Granted all parties may not have known one another at all since Six Flags employs a lot of people, but that doesnt elude the fact of what they did. And to do it against a female is even worse. They ought to be punished severely for it.

Now lets just see if the management at Six Flags fires them or not, which should happen because this would be a work place assalt ...If they dont get fired, then they send a bad message....and if they escort you off property, you should not be allowed to return, even for work.

  9. Wes's Avatar Wes says:

Yeah I know I'd be fired on the spot at Carowinds if I did something like that.

Surely Six Flags will do the same.

    EDIT:

    Looks like they were fired.

    H.R. called them in and said "A-blee, a-blee, a-blee, a-blee, that's all, folks!"

Sorry, but there was NO way I could leave it alone.

^^That's wrong on so many levels, but I couldn't help but laugh.lol

  12. Tyler's Avatar Tyler says:

I love to eat my pork, not hit it. That's an awful thing to do to an employee, or anybody for that matter. I'm glad they were fired.

I waved to Porky at the Glow in the Dark parade when i visited SFGAM for the first time last weekend. I wanted to give a good will gesture to the character.
