Six Flags, Inc., today unveiled the name of the region’s highly anticipated hotel and indoor waterpark that is expected to serve as a gateway for visitors to the Adirondack region of New York State. To be called the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark, the preeminent attraction will be open year-round and will be the only hotel and indoor waterpark in New York State when it debuts to tourists and visitors in winter 2005.
Located across from The Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom near Exit 20 of Interstate 87, the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark will feature 200 suites with a 38,000-square foot indoor waterpark. The waterpark will be highlighted by a massive multi-level play structure with nearly 160 interactive elements, including a beach-like setting. The waterpark will also include the first of its kind FlowRider in the Northeastern United States that offers guests a continual sheet wave for body boarding or stand-up surfing.
“The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark will serve as an economic catalyst for the Adirondack region and will help redefine year-round vacation opportunities for people traveling to one of the premier family vacation destinations in the United States,” said Six Flags Vice President of Hospitality Charles Roarty. “Vacationers who choose the Adirondacks for the fantastic skiing in the winter months will now be able to hit both the slopes and the beach
on the same day to make for an unprecedented, multi-faceted entertainment experience. The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge will also offer a convenient and unparalleled vacation experience for guests visiting The Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom theme park between May and October.”
The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark is expected to generate as much as $1.5 million annually for Warren County in new tax revenue and 60 to 70 new full-time employment opportunities. Managed and operated by Six Flags, Inc., the world’s largest regional theme park company, the venture is the result of a partnership between Aquatic Development Group, Inc. of Cohoes, N.Y.; BBL Construction Services, LLC of Albany, N.Y.; the D.A. Collins Companies of Mechanicville, N.Y.; and Six Flags, Inc. of Oklahoma City, Okla.
The décor of the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark will reflect the hotel and waterpark’s beautifully scenic Adirondack setting. The hotel’s grand two-story lobby will be outfitted with rustic beams, two fireplaces and comfortable seating. Of the 200 suites, 180 one-room family suites will feature two Queen-beds, plus a pull out sofa or a bunk bed to accommodate up to six guests. The remaining twenty suites will each have two rooms and will accommodate a minimum of eight guests through a variety of room layouts.
The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark will be connected to the Adirondack Coach House restaurant, which will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. A ballroom will be located off the lobby of the hotel and will seat up to 300 patrons. The facility will also contain an arcade, fitness center, and two gift shops.
The hotel’s principle feature, the indoor waterpark, will include eight primary attractions and will be located on the lower lobby level of the facility. The signature attraction will be a massive multi-level play structure, which resembles an Adirondack Lodge with wildlife replicas, water slides and several levels of water activities for guests. The multi-level play structure boasts nearly 160 interactive features including a large wooden “dump bucket” that spills water onto guests below, and two body slides that connect with the activity play lagoon.
Other waterpark features include: the FlowRider, where guests can experience the excitement and thrill of carving turns and catching and riding simulated waves; the themed adventure river with inflatable tubes; an activity play lagoon filled with basketball hoops; plus a shallow wading pool, warm spa, family raft ride and pair of water slides.
The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark will begin accepting reservations in June. For information about reservations, contact the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge at 888-708-2684 or log onto sixflagsgreatescapelodge.com.
