Jan. 29th, 2004 --
Governor George Pataki's administration proposed a new tax for sports events and amusement parks. The new proposed tax would help benefit the 911 emergency systems. The new tax would raise about 39 Million Dollars. The tax would be an increase in about 4% from the already taxed tickets. The new tax applies to sporting events such as: Football, Baseball, Hockey and Basketball. The tax also applies to amusement parks. The 4% increase could cause a few headaches. The proposed tax would apply to all of those listed above, but not the following: Movie Theatres, Musical Concerts, Wrestling Matches, Boxing, Race Tracks, and bowling. Governor George Pataki's administration claims taxes aren't applied to these events because the audience could be a "participant". Read more on Captial News 9's website. |
