Industry Announcements: AstroWorld closing and being soldBy Aaron |
Sep. 12th, 2005 -- It's the end of the line for Six Flags AstroWorld. Today the company announced that AstroWorld will close at the end of the season and the 109-acre site will be sold off to a real estate developer. According to Six Flags, selling the park was the best course of action compared to adding additional attractions and upgrading the current ones. AstroWorld's poor performance and issues over parking were cited as some of the reasons for the closure. The company will continue to own and operate Houston's SplashTown waterpark, which will receive some items from AstroWorld. Many of AstroWorld's 119 permanent employees will be offered jobs at other Six Flags parks. Visit Business Wire for the press release. |
