News: Disney rejects higher height restrictionBy Aaron |
Sep. 22nd, 2005 -- Although the autopsy on Daudi Bamuwamye, the 4-year-old who died in June on Epcot's Mission: Space ride, may not be out until November, the fight over the ride's safety restrictions has already begun. Disney recently rejected a call by the boy's parents that would raise the minimum height requirement from 44 inches to 51 inches. The parents charge that the current requirement allows children who aren't old enough to be exposed to the high G-forces Mission: Space creates to ride. They cite multiple examples of adults who felt sick or were injured on the ride, saying that if the ride affects adults in this way, children shouldn't be able to ride. Disney affirms that there was no connection between Mission: Space and Daudi's death. The park says it will wait for the autopsy results before taking any action.
