News: Camp Snoopy loses rights to characters

By Aaron

Jan. 10th, 2006 -- Camp Snoopy, a seven-acre amusement park inside the Mall of America, is getting a new name. Negotiations between the mall and United Media, which owns the rights to the "Peanuts" characters have broken down, forcing the park to remove all references to the comic strip. Starting Jan. 19, Camp Snoopy will simply be known as "The Park at MoA".

A large inflatable Snoopy and a ride with Snoopy's doghouse will be removed, but the rest of the park will remain open while it looks for a new brand. Tickets and passes that say "Camp Snoopy" will continue to be honored.

A spokeswoman for the mall said that the park wants to bring in something new and a "significant announcement" will be made soon.
