News: 7 workers injured testing coaster for Miami fair

Mar. 13th, 2006 -- Seven workers were injured on Sunday when they were testing the Mark 1 roller coaster they were preparing for the Miami-Dade County Fair. They were testing the roller coaster, which has a top speed of 25 mph, when they fell from it.

Two of the workers were airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center. Two others were taken by ambulance to local hospitals to be treated. By Sunday evening all but one of the workers had been released from the hospital.

The coaster is owned and operated by Conklin Shows, which operates the rides for the fair. An investigation is under way to determine what happened.

The fair opens on Thursday. The ride will be taken down and dismantled so it can be inspected and repaired. Other rides will be brought in to fill its space.
