News: Six Flags New Orleans staying closed for 2006

By Aaron

Mar. 16th, 2006 -- Six Flags New Orleans, flooded by Hurricane Katrina, will remain closed this year. The park, formerly known as Jazzland, suffered heavy damage from the storm and the rupture of New Orleans' levees.

Six Flags would not specify exactly how much damage the park sustained, calling it only "substantial", but announced it is working to determine the precise amount. The 55 permanent employees of Six Flags New Orleans will be offered jobs at other parks owned by Six Flags.

The spokeswoman who delivered the announcement would not say if the park would open in 2007.
