Apr. 12th, 2006 --
A new indoor/outdoor waterpark inside the boundaries of New York City received final approval yesterday and may break ground later this year. The $168 million project will cover 26 acres of land. City Planners approved a 35-year lease to New York-based Aquatic Development Group. Recent Aquatic Development projects include the current relocation of Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom and a new wave pool for Holiday World's Splashin' Safari for the 2005 season. The park will be built inside of New York City's Randall's Island city park. Opponents of the project say leasing public land to a private corporation furthers commercialization of the city.
