News: Boy dies on coaster at Disney-MGM

By Graham

Jun. 29th, 2006 -- A 12-year-old boy was pronounced dead after riding Rock-N-Roller Coaster with his father at Disney's MGM studios Thursday.

The incident occurred around 11:30. The boy was given CPR and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Roller Coaster has been shut down for an investigation into the cause of the incident. Both Disney and the Orange County Sheriffs office are conduction investigations. A Disney spokesperson said a preliminary investigation showed that the ride was operating normally when the incident occurred.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster launches riders from 0-60 mph in about 2.8 seconds. The ride is synchronized with a specially recorded Aerosmith soundtrack.

This is the second fatality on a ride at the Disneyworld resort this year. In April a woman died after riding Mission Space.
