News: Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom to expand Hurricane Bay water park

By Chris L

Sep. 19th, 2006 -- This winter, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom plans to makeover their Hurricane Bay water park with an expansion that will increase the size of the park up to fifteen percent. In addition to the expansion, the water park will acquire a new name.

The multi-million dollar investment includes an interactive play area for toddlers; numerous private cabanas which guests will be able to rent for the day; repaint of all structures and facades, as well as a new water ride attraction that's described as "a first of its kind in the region" that will employ "cutting-edge technology."

According to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom General Manager Jay Thomas, the new water ride, which is slated to open Memorial Day 2007, isn’t currently in use at any other Six Flags property. Construction begins in October.

"We’re going to give the water park a whole new look," said Thomas.
