News: Disney developing movie based on Jungle Cruise rideBy Aaron |
Sep. 21st, 2006 --
In a move likely fueled by the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Disney announced that it is developing a movie based on the Jungle Cruise ride. In the ride, one of Disneyland's original 22 attractions, guests board boats on a trip down a jungle river, encountering wild animals and other dangers. The executive producers of the TV show "Smallville" are in discussions to write the script. The movie will be set in the 20th century, but plot details remain unknown. Jungle Cruise would be the fifth film based on a Disneyland attraction. The two films based on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride have been very successful, with the second movie grossing over $1 billion worldwide so far. 2003's The Haunted Mansion brought in about $76 million in America, but The Country Bears the year before only made $17 million.
