News: Teens injured on Connecticut fair ride

By James R

Sep. 30th, 2006 -- On Friday, two riders were sent to the hospital after suffering injuries on a fair ride.

The local fire marshal officially shut down the Orbiter ride at the Berlin Fair in Berlin, Connecticut after parents reported complaints that the safety bar latch was malfunctioning on the ride, and that children were being tossed about.

In addition to these complaints, parents have reported to a local new station that their children are also being injured on the ride. One parent said that her 16-year-old son was hospitalized and was undergoing a CT scan Friday night due to injuries from the ride. Another mother also claims her son was injured as well.

However, both teens were not on the ride at the same time. Yet, according to both mothers, they each knew of at least two other children injured from the same ride.

State officials inspected the ride and did not find any problems. The ride will remain closed until further investigation can occur.

The Berlin Fair will continue its operation all weekend.
