News: Conneaut Lake Park falls further into debt

By Joseph

Nov. 1st, 2006 -- Following a 2006 season which nearly failed to begin, legal filings in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, show that Conneaut Lake Park has lost $225,000 this year.

The park, which averted its demise last spring when last-minute financing was granted to help it reopen for the summer season, now owes more than $2 million in combined debt. Included in the total is more than $37,000 in unpaid property taxes, and the park reported $137,000 was spent on emergency repairs in 2006.

Park overseer LeRoy Stearns, appointed by local courts in 2005, blames the losses partially on weather. Stearns is optimistic that the year-end figures may be better, as income from September 16 through the end of the year was not included in the filing.
