News: Story Land operator dies at 50

By Wes

Nov. 6th, 2006 -- Stoney Morrell,  who ran the attractions Story Land and Heritage New Hampshire, has died of cancer.  Morrell was 50.

In a strange coincidence Morrell died October 22, the same day that Heritage New Hampshire closed its doors for good.

Morrell’s parents, Ruth and Bob Morrell opened Story Land in 1954.  The amusement park caters to younger children and features attractions inspired by nursery rhymes and has drawn tourists from the area for over half a century.

Story Land will continue operation under management that was put in place by Morrell himself.

Morrell was born two years after his parents debuted Story Land and despite moving to Wyoming at one point, he eventually rejoined the family business in the early 1980s.

Morrell is survived by his wife, Foley; his son and daughter and his sister, Nancy.
