News: Kemah Boardwalk to add wood coaster

Dec. 12th, 2006 -- Kemah Boadwalk has officially announced its plans for the 2007 season, which will be centered by a new roller coaster. The roller coaster, currently without a name, was designed by The Gravity Group and will be built by Martin & Vleminckx.The ride will sit on approximately an acre of land, and it will be the first all-wood structure from The Gravity Group. The company's other two roller coasters, Hades at Mt. Olympus in Wisconsin and The Voyage at Holiday World in Indiana, both utilize a steel support system.

The ride will be a mere 96 feet tall and drop 92 feet, as it will reach speeds in excess of 50mph along its 3236 feet of track. Park officials say that the ride is scheduled to open n late spring or early summer of 2007.

Kemah Boardwalk is a small park between Houston and Galveston, Texas. It currently hosts a variety of resteraunts and shopping facilities, in addition to some smaller rides. This will be the first roller coaster at the venue which draws about 3 million visitors per year.
