News: Steel Pier to stay open for at least one more summer

Jan. 3rd, 2007 -- A family-owned amusement park on Atlantic City's Steel Pier was expected to close after the summer of 2006 to make way for a redevelopment of the pier. Trump Entertainment Resorts, which owns the pier, says that it does intend to eventually go through with the redevelopment, but the amusement park will open for the 2007 season.

Trump wanted to replace the park, whose operators have leased the pier for 15 years, with restaurants, hotels, and condos. The pier itself was constructed in 1898.

Trump officials say that the summer of 2007 will be the final season for the amusement park, but there is no timetable for the redevelopment.
