News: Sandusky area seeing shift to year-round destinationBy Brian P |

Feb. 2nd, 2007 -- The Sandusky area, typically a summer tourist destination, is quickly becoming a year-round place for families to visit. Erie County Commissioner chairman Tom Ferrell credits Kalahari for starting this growth. Although Great Wolf Lodge was the first indoor water park to open in Sandusky, Kalahari is currently the largest -- and its getting larger. Kalahari recently announced that they will double the size of their current water park and will be adding condos to their facility. Cedar Fair Entertainment Co., the parent company of Cedar Point, owns the Castaway Bay indoor waterpark. Some smaller hotels in the area are also building indoor water parks, but on a smaller scale than that of Great Wolf Lodge or Kalahari. Two other projects are also planned, but construction has not yet begun. David Sangree, president of Hotel and Leisure Advisors, an Ohio consulting company believes that there is plenty of room for more parks. One example that he noted was that of the Wisconsin Dells, Wis. area -- it has 18 water parks. The entire story can be found via the Beacon Journal |
