News: Disneyland sues the city of AnaheimBy Wes |
Mar. 13th, 2007 -- Apparently all is not well at the Happiest Place on Earth. The Walt Disney Co. is suing the city of Anaheim to stop a proposed construction of 1,500 condos, including several hundred low-income units, all very close to Disneyland.Proponents say that the units are needed to accommodate workers at Disneyland who can’t afford to live there and live miles away. Some workers spend at least four hours commuting each day from outlying areas where rent is cheaper. Disneyland and other tourism-oriented businesses oppose the addition for fear of the area returning to its days of neon signs, cheap motels and an all together unkept look of the area that was present in the early days of Disneyland. Disney fears that if this project is passed, it could hurt the brand for the resort and park. The development would be within walking distance of Disneyland and near Disney-owned land that could be the site of a new park some time in the future. Stay tuned for future developments in the lawsuit. For more information visit The Plain Dealer. |
