News: Infrastructure upgrades underway at The Great EscapeBy Chris L |
Mar. 14th, 2007 -- Guests visiting The Great Escape in 2007 will be welcomed by an array of familiar rides and attractions as well as the new headlining attraction for the season -- a funnel-shaped water thrillride named Tornado. However, the average visitor will not immediately notice the millions of dollars in infrastructure upgrades currently underway at the park -- upgrades that may lead to bigger and better things for the park in the near future. The park is being equipped with fiber-optic cable that will allow for quicker transactions at all cash registers. Gradual work on the park's outdated sewer system may finally be completed this year, thus allowing The Great Escape to join their system system to the city's. A hundred or so new lighting fixtures will be installed inside the park to enhance and increase illumination of midways and attractions. An ongoing power system upgrade to the park's patchwork of feeds will provide leverage in helping the park grow in the years to follow. Adequete improvements to the park's power system would allow The Great Escape to reassemble the pieces of a used suspended looping roller coaster that has been stored at the property since late 2005. The roller coaster was relocated from the now-defunct Six Flags AstroWorld theme park in Houston, TX. "We're doing more infrastructure work in the park than we've probably ever done in the history of this park," claimed Scott Maupin, the President of The Great Escape Properties. In addition to the introductino of Tornado, The Great Escape is also welcoming a Papa John's pizza franchise and new headquarters for The Justice League in the big circus tent -- a heavily-themed meet-and-greet area for guests to pose for a photograph with Batman, Robin, Green Lantern, Flash, and Wonder Woman. These new improvements and changes all came at a small price. While general use admission rates are not increased for the 2007 season, season pass and season parking pass prices have each increased by $5.
