News: Free admission to Six Flags Over Georgia results in chaos

By Chris L

Apr. 5th, 2007 -- At approximately 2 am this morning, more than 300 cars had lined up to enter Six Flags Over Georgia for free. The Q-100 radio station that sponsored the event bought out the park for the day as a promotion to its listeners.

However, park officials did not expect a tremendous response that would lead to a massive traffic jam on the freeway and fights in front of the park. Within 15 minutes of opening the gates, the park had reached capacity and staff began turning away hundreds of cars attempting to enter the lot.

Six Flags officials refused admission to countless numbers of teenagers and young adults that began walking down the freeway towards the park in hopes of bypassing traffic in order to secure themselves free admission. For safety reasons, officials said only free admission was given to guests that arrived via automobile.

The trouble didn't end there. Fights and unruly behavior broke out as people clamored for the free tickets handed out by Six Flags staff.

Then at approximately 3:30 am, mobs of people stormed the park's gates in anticipation of gaining entry. "They ran us over," said Jaleesa Prather, who arrived at midnight and slept on the ground in a lot near the park. "We thought we were going to get trampled. We were beat up and punched for those tickets."
