News: Great Escape norovirus outbreak declinesBy James R |
Mar. 26th, 2008 -- A viral outbreak at Six Flags Great Escape Lodge &
Indoor Waterpark has begun to slow down, officials report. As of March 22, the New York State Department of Health has
since received fewer than 10 reports of cases. A statement reported that,
"the number of people reporting recent illness has declined
significantly." At least a total of 435 case of the norovirus have been
reported to the Department. The Department continues to investigate the
outbreak and is working on finding the exact source of the virus. The first case of the sickness was reported on March 17, Health officials say. It seems that most cases were reported by
people who had been sick but did not report their ailments until they had
already recovered. The State Health Department has maintained a presence
on-site at the Great Escape to protect public health, as well as assure
visitors that the resort is in compliance with state regulations. |
