News: Tweetsie Railroad land dispute resolved

By Wes

May. 22nd, 2008 -- Watauga County commissioners have unanimously approved a deal that will keep Tweetsie Railroad chugging into the future.

The park’s train runs across land that the park does not own, but leases.  The land owners are no longer willing to lease the land and the county stepped in.

The county will pay $3.15 million and lease the land the park for $1 a year for six years.  After that time, Tweetsie will pay the market rate to lease the land until it buys it from the county at a future date to be determined.
