News: Big Dipper sold for $5,000By Chip |
Jun. 17th, 2008 -- Geauga Lake's classic Big Dipper coaster was sold at auction for $5,000 to an unknown buyer.
Akron, Ohio-based Apex Western Machinery Movers won the bidding. Apex's Tom Woosnam bid for the coaster for a buyer he did not name. He said the company moves machines, and he said the buyer will erect Big Dipper "as a nostalgia piece," not a ride. The auction for rides and ride equipment started today, and tomorrow's auction is for campground items. Skyscraper, the Intamin observation tower, was sold for $12,500, and it will be sold for scrap metal. Anything not sold will go to other Cedar Fair parks, said Norton Auctioneers president.
