Finance: Tussauds fined in Thorpe Park accident

By Chip

Mar. 29th, 2004 -- The owners of Tussauds were fined after an accident on a ride left two guests injured.

Tussads was fined £65,000 (approximately $118,024 U.S.) today after two teenagers were injured on the Zodiac Express ride at Thorpe Park.

The gondola they were sitting in came loose and hung from the support as the operator tried to stop the ride. The gondola hit the base repeatedly as the operator tried to bring it to a stop.

The judge noted that he was glad it "did not turn into an absolute tragedy." He also criticized the time it took to shut the ride down after hearing an abnormal noise.
