News: Fire destroys haunted house at Six Flags America

By Wes

Jul. 31st, 2008 -- Flames ripped through a haunted house attraction Wednesday around 7 p.m. on the grounds of Six Flags America.

A Six Flags America spokesperson says the area near the building was immediately evacuated when the fire broke out. Shortly thereafter, the entire park was closed.

The building that was destroyed by the fire appears to be very close to the Roar roller coaster.  However, a Six Flags spokesperson said there was no damage to any of the rides.

Fire officials said it took 60 firefighters about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. They said the tin building appears to be a complete loss.

No injures were reported. It is unclear what started the fire and no damage estimates were available. The park is expected to open Thursday on time.
