News: Hard Rock Park employees laid off

By Chip

Aug. 9th, 2008 -- Hard Rock Park laid off 25 to 30 employees this week, a spokesman said.

Full- and part-time employees were laid off, but spokesman Jim Olecki called it "minuscule." The park only hired 2,000 employees instead of a projected 3,000.

Olecki said the park will be open past Labor Day, and it will be open next season, but things could change depending on attendance levels.

Park executives have said layoffs are adjustments in staffing levels that happen at many seasonal employers in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Earlier this week, the park CEO, Steven Goodwin, said people are cutting back on vacation and spending less money. He said it's "a really tough summer."
