News: Man dies after fall from Superman

By Chip

May. 1st, 2004 -- A 55-year-old man, identified as Stanley J. Mordarsky from Bloomfield, Connecticut, died Saturday after falling out of the Superman Ride of Steel roller coaster.

Reports state that the man fell out of the top-ranked steel roller coaster toward the end of the ride.

An eyewitness claimed he was "spinning like a Frisbee" as he came out of the ride in a curve.

Mordarsky was pronounced dead 45 minutes later at a local hospital.  Mordarsky had cerebral palsy.  His 82-year-old mother said she couldn't "understand why they would let him on a ride like that in the first place.  He was so sickly and handicapped.  I just can't believe it."

The roller coaster was inspected Saturday morning and was certified for operation.  It has been closed pending investigation by park staff and Agawam, Mass., police.
