News: Girl dies at Rye Playland By Jill Anne

May. 23rd, 2004 -- Stephanie Dieudonne, of New Rochelle, fell off the spider-shaped Mind Scrambler Saturday evening at Playland Amusement Park in Rye. She was later declared dead at a local hospital. The girl rode the ride several times that day. Friends reported that each time she rode she got "a little more brave," which may suggest that the 7-year-old chose to kneel on the ride.  The Mind Scrambler was closed after the incident, but the park remains open. The investigation thus far shows no apparent operator error, but a more thorough investigation from the state Department of Labor will lead to more concrete conclusions.
