News: New Ferris Wheel record at Six Flags St. Louis

By Jill Anne

Jun. 21st, 2004 -- Mother-daughter team Rhonda and Kelly Crocker rode the Colossus Ferris wheel at Six Flags St. Louis for 36-hours to set a new Guinness World Record. They were two of six people participating in the record-setting event.

Each participant got a share of the $1000 offered for breaking the contest. Six Flags offered this contest to promote its 18-story replica of the 1904 World's Fair Ferris wheel.

The first 29 hours of the contest were negated when participants had to get off the ride for lightning. The Guinness record insists that participants ride the ride non-stop with the only stops being for regular loading and unloading during the park operation hours.
