News: Wild Adventures not ready for big crowds

By Jill Anne

Jul. 27th, 2004 -- Several drink machines were broken at Wild Adventures Amusement Park in Valdosta, Georgia this Saturday when the heat index soared above 100 degrees. This was the second largest crowd at the park ever, which holds 32,000.

Unfortunately, many guests were overcome by the heat. At least a dozen people were taken to the hospital for dehydration while another two dozen were treated inside the park.

The crowd on Saturday was the second largest ever at the park. The vice president, Jimmy Holmes, said that the day was a good learning experience. Park officials are now busy adding more water fountains and installing new drink machines so that even on recording breaking days guests will be able to get a drink without waiting in a long line. The park is also adding more fans.

This Saturday, before these changes were taking places, the park added emergency cooling stations and allowed visitors inside theaters to cool off. Water and power drinks were being passed out for free.
