News: Disney World fined over worker death

By Aaron

Aug. 11th, 2004 -- Walt Disney World was fined $6,300 dollars today as a result of a death that occurred last February in a parade. 38 year-old employee Javier Cruz was caught between two parts of a three-part float in the "Share a Dream Come True" parade and was killed.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) faults Disney for placing employees in positions where they can be struck by moving vehicles. Disney must show OSHA that it has taken steps to prevent such accidents in the future by August 20. OSHA refrained from fining Disney the maximum penalty of $7,000 dollars.
