News: Como Park to get $4M Upgrade

By Drew S

Aug. 20th, 2004 -- Como Park in St. Paul, MN is not the type of place that would bring a thrill seeker from very far.  The small park is home to Como Zoo, the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, and a small amusement park.  The amusement portion of the park consists of several portable carnival rides on a dirt lot.  Fortunately, that is about to change.

Lancer Hospitality Incorporated of Eagan, MN was awarded a contract to upgrade the fledgling park.  The contract, valued at over $4 million is intended to upgrade the rides and landscaping.  Lancer has a vested interest in the success of the park.  Lancer has been the food vendor to Como for 15 years.

The centerpiece of the upgrades is to be a large tree house featuring climbing walls, slides, and areas for children to dig for fossils.

The redevelopment will begin this September with a completion to come in time for the park to open next May.
