News: Effort to keep MB Pavilion put fails

By Aaron

Aug. 25th, 2004 -- As a follow up to an earlier story, Myrtle Beach mayor Mark McBride has not convinced the Myrtle Beach City Council to block plans to move the park.

The Downtown Redevelopment Corp. has announced it may move the 11-acre park, an action McBride fiercely opposes. There have been several proposals for what to do with the land should the park be moved, but nothing has been officially approved.

The council voted 6-1 not to stop the park from being moved, saying it was not their place to decide the will of Myrtle Beach's 23,000 permanent citizens. McBride was the only one who voted to ban the move.
