News: Hersheypark announces changes for 2005

By Kyle Rehm

Dec. 9th, 2004 -- Hersheypark has announced that Turbulence, their previously announced drop coaster, has been cancelled due to the ride manufacturer's refusal to provide the ride as specified in its contract.

In response to this, Hersheypark has developed alternate plans as follows:

  • Carrousel Circle will be renamed Founder’s Circle, and renovated to create a great sense of nostalgia as a classic gathering point for guests to the Park.
  • The renovated Founder's Circle will welcome the reintroduction of two classic Hersheypark rides, Balloon Flite and Starship America -- two family attractions. The area will be highlighted by the statute of Milton S. Hershey and historic carousel, along with an abundance of new flowering baskets, lush plantings and shade arbors.
  • Additionally, in the tradition of the outstanding and award winning entertainment at Hersheypark, a new musical is being produced, called "The Milkmen."

General Manager Frank O'Connell made the following statement about the changes to the 2005 plans:

"Although plans for Turbulence had been eagerly anticipated, guests will find these additions are in keeping with Hersheypark’s reputation as the leader in family fun and entertainment, We will continue to provide something for every member of the family. We’ve also enhanced this nostalgic area by providing a pleasant venue for our guests who want to relax in a beautifully landscaped environment."

Hersheypark is scheduled to open its 2005 operating season on May 7, 2005.
