Dec. 22nd, 2004 -- On Tuesday, Dec. 21, Sea World San Diego celebrated the birth of a killer whale, the fifth at its park.Kasatka, the mother, gave birth to the calf at 9:22 a.m. in Shamu Stadium's main show pool after two hours of labor. The calf appears to be healthy, and instinctively swam up to the surface for its first breaths of air. The calf, who's sex is not known yet, is estimated to be 6-7 feet long and weigh between 300 and 500 pounds, with its weight gaining about 2 pounds each day with nursing. For more, visit CBS News. |
