News: Legoland sets world record

By Aaron

Feb. 22nd, 2005 -- Yesterday, Legoland California set the world record for the tallest Lego structure. Standing 92 feet 6 inches tall, the tower shatters the previous record of 82 feet set in 1982 in the Baltic nation of Estonia.

More then just a record-breaking attempt, the tower's construction was also a form of charity. Guests built 2,132 Lego hearts into the tower, and the park said it would donate $1 to the Children's Heart Institute for each heart.

Over a course of five days, 12,000 guests used over 400,000 Lego pieces to construct the tower.
