Mar. 5th, 2005 --
Brian J. Woody, 29, of Toledo, Ohio, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for causing an accident that killed six people in June. Woody was charged with six counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of aggravated vehicular assault, third-and fourth-degree felonies, respectively. Woody caused a chain reaction in which six people were killed after leaving the Cedar Point amusement Park. His vehicle crossed the center lane and impacted the front left corner of a tractor-trailer, the Ohio Highway Patrol said. Witnesses said the tractor-trailer then clipped another vehicle and smashed head-on into the vehicle with the victims. The impact pushed their vehicle off a bridge, and it landed upside down in a creek. Tests showed that Woody had alcohol, marijuana and Valium in his system, though his blood-alcohol level was below the legal limit of 0.08. Before he was sentenced, Woody told the court he was sorry.
