News: 'Entertainment Village' plans fail By Kyle Rehm

Jan. 17th, 2004 -- The Daily Herald reported Monday that Six Flags Great America no longer owns the 134 acres across I-94 that it had intended to develop into a waterpark and entertainment complex. The plans began to fall apart shortly after the plan was approved by the Gurnee planning commission in 1998. The plan faced stiff opposition from local residents fearing for their property values. Things went from bad to worse in April 1999  when the Village of Gurnee voters rejected the complex in an advisory referendum. The Planning Commission also told Six Flags that if it wished to build the complex it would have to pay for infrastructure improvements along Washington St. The estimated cost for the improvements was $7 million.
