I hope you realize that other people may have different opinions than you.
I just read the article about Discovery's Thrills, Chills, Spills Weekend and it listed the top five woodies and steel coasters. Millennium Force should be #1! I have ridden Magnum, and in my opinion, it sucks. Sorry to say it, but it does.

And the woodies! Where is Beast? Or Son of Beast? They are great coasters and at the top of my favorites list! What the heck is wrong with these morons?

[ This Message was edited by: Brett Weissbart on 2001-05-18 15:56 ]

You're talking as if we here at ThrillRide made those shows. You're complaining to the wrong people. You should contact the Discovery Channel about this issue.

You're right. I am sorry. But many people will agree with me that the Beast is the best wooden coaster in the world, and that MF is the best Steel. But year after year people vote for Magnum as #1. I'm sick of it. People only vote for it because it's the first hyper, not because of how great a ride it gives. But, then again, there are alot of poepl that really did like Magnum. So I guess I made a mistake. Again, I am sorry.
Discovery gets their rankings from one coaster organization- NAPHA (hope I got that right- it's something like National Amusement Park Hsomething Association) It's been noted in other forums that this organizations top 10 list changes very little from year to year, but they also don't tell how they count the vote of the few people in it that get to vote. A lot of people think that it is votes accumulated over the last several years, which is why Magnum is still up.
If you read the article, it says that the Amusement Today poll is what the show is based on.

If CP rigged it, then why wouldn't Millennium Force be #1?

Ha! Magnum #1? Not quite... but then again, they listed the Thunderbolt as the best coaster ever...haha!

My goodness - how childish you guys seem over coaster votes - same stuff happens in Hollywood ALL THE TIME! If SOME SOME SOME SOME people think a person did a better job acting then, they get the Oscar - it doesn't mean a gosh darn thing - award shows are absolutely POINTLESS! It's like the Super Bowl - who actually remembers last years???

It's stupid about the CP rigging the thing - that makes absolutely no sense.

Magnum wins in my opinion just like the old Disney coasters do - they were the first of their kind!
It sure seems that way, doesn't it? At least I am not the only one that thinks that.
What I don't understand is how a lot of people rave about The Beast being the best wooden coaster in the world, but it is rarely showcased on TV shows about rollercoasters.
-Really, Ociffer....I haven't been dinking too mush. I only trank a bittle lit o' beers, and a coupla scotches of shot!
I think they should focus more on the coasters and less on the Sea World exhibits...or have animal parks on a different show.
Do you mean those shows on the Travel Channel? Thrill Parks Revealed? If you do, I agree.

Hey! Dont say Magnum su*ked cuz if Magnum wern`t build, we would have a LOT less if no hyper or giga coasters at all! Millenium Force should have had #1 though...
i don't think their rigged, but i do feel that its not right. i think they should form a group of 100 people, all coaster fanatics who goto tons of parks and rode everything to vote for these things. then and only then will we get a good top ten list.

Forgot about this post, but since it's back up here, I'll add a small retraction/ explanation.

Tyler was correct that Amusement Today is not the same as NAPHA, and that they are completely independant of each other. In fact AT has been around for a long time and it's awards are highly respected.

The reason that I was a bit mixed up is because last year when Discovery did the same type of show they used NAPHA's rankings. I assumed (dummy) that they were using the same organization this year. Mea Culpa.

Anyways, that's why I looked like a doofus earlier. Just wanted to clear that up so I feel a little better.

Don't be surprised if MF is #1 next year or in the next few years, and I feel The Legend will also move up in the ranks. Like they said earlier, the votes are pretty much a cumulative ordeal and I believe they are based on peoples responses to the actual parks themselves (i.e. Comment Cards to guest relations). How else would they get the results that they do? I mean you and I were never entered into any polls to vote for best coasters were we? They have to get their results somewhere. But I guess my beliefs here could be wrong too for the shear fact Raven has been the #1 woodie for years and thats in a very small park. But thats my 2 cents.

[ This Message was edited by: DrachenFire96 on 2001-06-24 03:53 ]
i think that they rigged it oo cause there is no way that cp;s rides are all top ten like that. magnum is stupid. sorry it is just stupid.
i have heard of the beast not being in the top 5 or ghostrider, but for neither to make it while those other do is ridiculous...
i didn't even ride magnum yet this year! hows that?
i came all the way to CP and rode THAT MFer.
