In an age of floorless, stand-up, inverted, flying etc. etc... bring back the sit downs! Remember a little number called the Kumba? That is at the top of my list because you could just chill out and sit down. You didn't have your feet dangling, you weren't uncomftorable due to a bike seat hurting your you know what...you could cross your feet, put them up, whatever you wanted. I think B&M should stop revolutionizing and just give us a HUGE record breaking good old sit down coaster. Yes I am aware of Wildfire and I have to say that is the best ride I have ridden in a while, simply because you sat down normally.

why have a sit down just have a floorless and do not look down

  5. #5
My general guess, is that the GP feels that a stand up, inverted, or floorless would be more exciting than a sit down. Us coaster entusiasts make up a very small bit of the population at the parks.

Well, you can have a sitdown, but then the park thinks, "hmmmmmm, if we add an extra feature to this train, we could make it better", so they take away the floor, make it extra extra wide, or make you stand up. But then the sitdowns become the rare ones! Only 3 in the U.S. Dragon Kahn is in Spain(has 8 loops) I'm guessing we will see more though.

True True... Go to the mountain and theyve got it all.. Sit down, Stand up, Inverted, Suspended, reverse Free Fall, Woodies, And with deja Vu and X on the way Viper will be king of all sit down coasters in the west for a long time to come.

I personally love regular B&M sitdowns. Hulk and Kumba are two of my favorite coasters. I hope i get to ride Wildfire, but it wont be anytime soon though.

well, if done right sitdowns can be better, but somtimes not. i mean kumba just doesn't have it anymore because theres no special feature to attract fear. i do think thought that their should be more sitdowns built

I agree, sitdowns are just as good as others. Stand-ups are a pain, when you sit down, you are comfy! Take wildfire for instance, I thikn that it is definately better than some standups.

Ok, I am a teenager and it's true, we want the new stuff. Most kids that go to amusement parks want to do something that you can't do anywhere else. I dunno but riding a coaster w/o a floor is just more exciting to me than a regular sitdown. But hey, that's just my opinion. <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

yeah i have a feeling that sit downs are gone unless it is to break some new records youre not gonna get any like from arrow in the early 90's

Stand-ups are on the way out. Even B&M says that they're not as popular as their other models. Floorless coasters are very new, so they will last a while longer, but with only B&M (a very expensive company) making them, they probably won't stay in fashion for long. No doubt there will be new types of trains invented, but the sit down looper will always be there. It is the most lasting type of train.

Agreed 100%. I love B&M sit-downs having ridden two of them. The trains are among the best looking anywhere.

I have only been on a Floorless and Inverted (I am planning to ride some over the next summers), could anybody tell me why the Sit-Down is in fact better?
I don't feel like manually adding my Track Record, so I'm just going to tell you it's 228.

B&M sit downs are great! I love them. I don't see why they even build stand-ups. Ouch! They are painful!

I have not ridden Kumba since it's opening weekend in 1993 and i have to say that it is still my 2nd favorite coaster of all time. I rode Batman Knight Flight it's opening weekend this year and although it was very fun, it couldn't beat Kumba for me. So yes, bring back the sitdowns!

I'd say standups are a fad that has come and gone. I have a friend who took a girl on one, and her comment was "I had something smashing my chest, and something else jammed into my crotch, and my head kept getting banged around. It was just like a bad date."<BR><BR><font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: DRC on 2001-05-30 00:32 ]</font>

I had been on Kumba, Hulk and Kraken. In my opinion, the floorless doesn't add any excitement to the ride. A floorless coaster is as good as a normal sit-down, only more expensive to build and generates more hype.
    <BR>
<BR>Personally, Hulk is the top among the 3, followed by Kumba. The major reason why Kraken is disappointing is due to it's out-and-back layout.

Well, most every park has a sit-down looping coaster these days, and most likely won't get another without tearing the first one down. Also, next year we might see an old one re-open, Drachen Fire.
Life is a rollercoaster, enjoy it, b/c the ride is always too short (If someone's already said this, sorry, I didn't mean to rip it off ya)

Sit down loopers will never go away. When all the fads like Standups and whatnot die, it'll be back to good old sitdowns.
