New York: Why not more coasters?

We all know of the legendary Cyclone at Coney Island, and some remember the Comet in upstate NY, but why aren't Six Flags companies flocking to New York? not all of it is city, so there is still space to build. i know they own the Comet park, but why has Six Flags and other companies failed to realize how many people are in New York?

It might be because New York is close to SFGADV and SFNE. Six Flags Darien Lake is in New York, but if you live anywhere near the city it takes well over five hours to get there. SFNJ is closer. Premier also owns The Great Escape in Lake George, which is where the Comet is located. I don't know why they don't covert that into a Six Flags. The distance issue might be a factor. I've heard that they have room to expand, and it is a fairly good park. What I'm complaining about is the lack of parks on Long Island, New York! So many people live here, it would be great to have one. Plus it would be close to the city. And...basically I'm just selfish and don't feel like driving for 2 hours to get to Six Flags, lol.

i couldn't agree more. i live in maryland, but i live with my relatives on long island for the summer. i got to ride the Cyclone last year, but only by luck because we went to the nearby aquarium. the closest park for us islanders is that pathetic Adventure Land that costs a fortune to ride that garbage. how about this for an idea: have a coaster that goes between the statue of liberty and ellis island (new york and new jersey) and a (ungodly) coaster going across both the american and canadian borders of niagra falls. very unlikely, but maybe Mr. Bush is smarter than we think. <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

lol I went to adventureland last night for one reason: To get a funnelcake. It's a sorry excuse for a park. I wish SFNJ was here. I'd never be home! <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

<BR>I have to say one thing though. Splish Splash, which is owned by the same people who run Adventureland, is a pretty good waterpark. It's in Riverhead, and it blows Adventureland away.

isn't SFNJ like 1-1:30 from NYC? i mean it was positioned to be right between philly and NYC. but as for parks closer to the city, i dunno, probably because land is too expensive. also, its better for money to be between those two cites

Coney Island would become one of the richest parks if they somehow got enough money to get a floorless B&M, after that they will be getting so many good rides.

It is directly very close to the city. But the traffic getting off the island sucks, and traveling through the city...its just a hard ride to deal with. Like I said, I'm selfish, I want a park close to home <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
