Thread: Oblivion add-ons

  1. #1
now now...dont get me wrong, the oblivion is a great roller coaster...mabey the greatest...BUT does anyone agree that it should be a bit longer with some more inversions and turns...its a big of a build up just for 30 seconds....what do you think?

  2. #2
Yeh, its hard to say. Its almost billed more as a freefall ride than a rollercoaster. But they could add a couple elements like they did with Hypersonic.

If you were allowed to change/modify oblivion in some kind of way, whether it be the track layout or extending the track etc. what would you do to make it better? We're talking realistically here so no extending it into a giant giga-coaster or nothing remember that space is limited in the x-sector now.

kinda weird post but anyway....i dont think in needs any fancy schmancy inversions or anything but just maybe a helix and a bit more airtime and it would be perfect. As it is it is a bit disappointing...i wouldnt have taken a lot to make it 10 times better.

how about a vertical spike between the drop and the final bend, just like a smaller version of Hypersonic XL ride (i think its called) basically after the first drop you go underground and then up a vertical hill into the open and then over the top into another small vertical drop back underground, then the rest is the same.

I think it should be like nemesis, with a full track layout, not just a one-gimmick ride. It should have a vertcal loop, which ends of with a dive into the ground...a bit like this(:D)

well...that didn't turn out AT ALL!

shoot...well here goes...
You enter like a noraml loop, and go up and invert normally, but instead of going down back to horizontal, you continue down at 90' for 20feet or so, then exit the bottom...it sounds okay now, the image above just didn't work!!

hey I've thought about that before! Great minds think alike lol

I think that would be great especially if there were a way to go round the loop slowly. I understand what you mean by one drop gimmick but you have to admit, its a great drop!

If they added to it, maybe the could have a second drop (maybe using the loop idea )in the middle near submission and a turn underground back towards the banked turn at the end.

    Yeah..!
I have another idea...why don't they add other fan turn, away into the woods at the righthand side, then put the loop in...going under ground and doing a helix(like goliath's centrifuge!)then thump back up above ground around the bend at the back, then into the statiomn...it would add a few valuable seconds onto the ride time...and make me like it even more...and yeah, the drop is like nothing else you have felt on earth...way cool!

I agree with the vertical bit at the end. I think that adding another vertical bit where it goes up and down at 90 degrees at the end.

I know this won't change the ride much but it would be a cheap way of amking it more intresting.

Why not change the 2nd row and make it face backwards.
would be so strange falling backwards
just an idea

i think that would be cool, but it would just feel like a reverse freefall ride though, i think the facing forward cars make it more intense, but both facing forward and backwards would be a good idea.

maybe they could put stand up cars, or even floorless cars, just too make it more intense, you see where i am going!

the reason why it wouldnt be the same as a reverse free fall because as it turns round the ben at the top you cant see the edge as it is behind you and the sensation of slowly tipping backwards would be enough to freak me out! I wouldnt like the ride as much if it were stand up, sometimes stand up coasters can be a little irritating in getting the harness just right, but the floorless idea would be nice.

Another idea i had for oblivion would be the themeing around it, can you imagine a tunnel underground for people to watch it hurtle by! there could be somekind of snack stop too.

we should be getting paid for this!

what about a longer pause at the top, allowing the people to get a full on veiw of the x-sector! you are pretty high up there.

could they launch us off the top of the brake?that would be intense, pushing the g's up!

i am running out of ideas, are you?

hehe you're right we should be getting paid... hope you hear that Alton towers lol

I like the idea of a longer wait at the top maybe an extra 5 seconds or something.

maybe in years to come they'll make the drop higher along side the ever growing trees, or maybe the restrictions will cease to exsist! imagine oblivion with an extra 100ft on top!!! yikes what a ride!

  18. #18
i think it would be class with a loop and a few barrel rolls UNDER the ground...........and of course a higher drop...and mabey a bit more speed on it...

i have to disagree with the loops and barrel rolls, i dont think it would be the same ride, keep the ride short and sweet with its simplicity, eg just increase the drop or maybe add one barrel roll inside the tunnel, actually i like the idea of just one

I agree the Oblivion is fine as it is. It maybe could be improved with a few minor adjustments.

  21. #21
Believe it or not, there was a really crazy rumour going around soon after Oblivion was built that it was infact Phase 1 of the coaster, Phase 2 to come a few years later. Unfortunutly not many people believed it and it was quickly addressed as a false rumour anyway.

But seriously, if it did happen, I wouldnt mind after coming out of the tunnel, there would be a Corkscrew or Loop, Then I would like to see a killer Helix, followed by the small dip up to the brake run. That would rule.

i think they should move the break down a bit so it holds you fully vertical

i like the idea of the second row backward

  23. #23
Bare in mind X-Sector basically provides enough space for well.......nothing extra at all. Oblivion is perfectly suited to its surroundings the way it is and any extension would dominte X-Sector too much and spoil the area, plus I reckon you could maybe fit in a helix at most.

They should add lap bars, and add a few bunny hops. Inversions arent necessary, but id love to see a corkscrew half burried in the ground!

  25. #25
I would add some smoke and light effects.

There are already smoke effects but I like the idea of light effect. How about some strobes in the tunnel or if that would be a little blinding how about a few lines of red lights running parralel to the track?

yeah i think strobelights would ruin it but the red lights down the sides would be nice I'm trying to think how lapbars would work seeing as its so steep, i think alot of people would find it too insecure for them to ride it but you never know. If oblivion could be new colours, what would you choose? maybe a blue and silver track with the blue as the main body and silver as the tubing along the track.

when the holding brake at the top of the drop lets go of the car, it should launch it off a little, too. It would make it more suprising.

i dunno about the boost, wouldnt that be a danger? people would get whiplash etc. i think being at the top and slowly going over the edge is better because you get a great view of the drop if it were any quicker you wouldnt have enough time to take it all in. oh well just my opinion thats all.
