Top Speed on MF?

I haven't been to Cedar Point yet (but I'm planning to later this summer)

<BR>I've been hearing discussions back and forth about the top speed of this coaster.

<BR>I've also heard in rumors that the top speed can vary, depending on conditions.

<BR>Does anybody have facts on this? I don't think it goes over 100mph as some people have suggested in the past, but how much of a diffrence could there be?

Top speed as recorded by professionals is 93mph. It is physically impossible for the trains to reach 100mph given the drop. I don't know the actualy equations but i'm sure somone out there knows and can give us diff. scenarios with different coefficients of friction.

I'm sure that it has various speeds per ride. I mean when the car has no weight in it, the thing can barely make it over the 3rd hill(180ft.). With people in it the things flies over the hill. I think that the weather can have things to do with it too. So I think it can get to speed around 95mph max and probobaly about 88mph low.

I have ridden MF several times in various conditions. I don't bring a radar gun with me! But I can tell you this, it does seem a little quicker when its warmer. Somewhere between 80-90 degrees. Enjoy your first ride on MF this summer!

92mph. Theoretically, it could hit around 93, maybe 94. There's not way, given mass, and height of drop, that the coaster could attain a speed of 100mph.

The "official statement" WAS....WAS 92mph. But CP has recently changed it to 93mph. I have heard reports that with people onboard, adding weight, the train will reach 102mph, but I dont know about that one.

Guys, everybody knows that the official speed is 92 mph, so please stop posting that! We are talking about how fast it COULD go. I would say theoretically it could maybe get up to 95 mph with a lot of mass in the train.

I truly believe that during summer nights....The track is nice and hott man it gets up at least 2mph faster at night...It just seems to fly then....Like it doesnt during the day hahah damn its fast

i'm sure its never ventured outside of 90-94, though if they slowed the lifthill down it would probably be closer to 90.

AAAHHHHHH my friends you are all quite wrong. But that is simply because you do not know the whole story. MF was calculated to go 92 mph before it was built, however, it turned out to be too slow during testing. That is, it had problems creating enough momentum to get up the second hill(after the the 122-degree banked turn). Therefore, the trains are taken over the top of the hill a little faster. Anyone who has ridden it remembers how the train speeded up near the top of the hill. MF now reaches speeds a shade over 100mph. 104 is the fastest I've heard. All the insiders say it is definitely above 100.

It was officially clocked at 93 mph and a height of 310 ft. 8 inches. There was a huge dispute after SD 2000 was made and they had the speed and the height officially recalculated. The train travels up the lift hill an average of 13 mph and by the laws of physics the train cannot travel over 98 mph. Case closed.

<BR>The average speed going up the hill may be 13 mph, however, like I said before, it starts going faster at the top, so don't calculate possible speeds with 13 mph, because it goes over the top faster than it comes out of the station.

I think realistically MF can probably hit 95, if there is no wind and there is a lot of mass on the train and the wheels were just lubed. But really, can you tell the difference? What does 2-3 mph matter?

92 93 94 104, who really cares, at that speed when I rode it, it still a great rush...So who cares about the speed? When your going over 90+ mph, it starts feeling the same, the bugs just hit you faster...

Being a lifelong CP season pass holder, and an owner of a GPS unit, i can tell you very inaccurately that MF goes from 91-96 mph according to 10 readings i did over two days. I also want Billennium to teach me how to will the Force to go faster than the laws of physics will allow. I wanna know! Please share....ok, i'm joking, Just kidding Bill....hehe <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif"> I am serious about the GPS thing, though but the answer lies in the official readings by a company who i can't remember the name of, but recoreded Milennium Force's top speed at 93 mph. They tested over several days, throughout the day, in varying temps. and weather conditions.

<BR>On matters of physics, you say that an object dropping from a height of 310 ft(or 295, irrelevant) can not build up the speed to go 100 mph. What you are forgetting to consider is that this calculation is for an object starting at rest. MF goes faster up the last quarter of the hill(I know, I've ridden over 20 times). Thus, this object(the train) is already traveling at a speed of roughly 15-20 mph, and therefore starts its acceleration from there.
<BR>I'm not a physicist, but I hope that explains my thinking. My thinking could be wrong.

You don't mean GPS as in Global Position Satilite do you becasue how does that read speed? Also, I don't know if it breaks 100 or not but the theroy of traveling over the hill going 15-20 and then falling makes sence because I have noticed that at different times on different rides on the Force it seems to go faster and slower on the lift.

At a physics day at CP, one guy who was talking said when they first tested it, MF got upto 115MPH. They had to change the type of wheels on the car to slow it down.

Conditions change with every run of MF. An accurate measurement would have to be take over a long period of time. Cool idea for Cedar Point might be to set up a radar or laser speed device on the fastest point on the ride and display the readings in the station.
