Special Features: Carolina Cobra strikes at Carowinds

Posted Friday, April 10th, 2009 at 11:00 am by Wes

carolinacobraOur tale begins in a sleepy Ohio town, where a creature so fierce that many said it made your head spin, broke free and made its way down I-77 to Charlotte, North Carolina.

The creature not only found a new home at Carowinds, but before settling into its lair scared off a water creature that inhabited the same place, relegating the creature to the warehouse district of Carowinds.

Many of you know this creature, or many of its cousins around the world, but we’ll just call it the Carolina Cobra.

My mission was to tame this creature, or at least survive an encounter with the beast.

Carolina Cobra

On March 27, media and park officials were on hand for some sort of gathering. There were even strange creatures on hand that seemed to come from a child’s cartoon. The park, obviously not knowing what kind of creature they were now playing host to, even had other snakes on-hand, as if mocking the Carolina Cobra, to entice it to strike, possibly even twice!

After a short official announcement and welcoming of the creature, I along with other victims, I mean guests, made my way to the beast’s lair.

I selected a seat on the back of the snake and found the creature’s restraints to be quite comfortable, surely a trick of the creature to lull me into a trance of deception.

As many of you know, this snake and its cousins deceive you from the first, pulling you backwards up a giant spike before releasing you to experience three inversions. Oh, and you probably also know that these creatures will also throw you for, let us say, a boomerang, as they force you to experience the encounter again, backwards!

Carolina Cobra was surely in a good mood, as it went quite easy on me. There were a few shakes of the tail in the aptly named cobra roll, but otherwise this was one smooth snake.

If you would like to experience this giant snake, the intrepid snake charmers at Carowinds will be glad to help you conquer the Carolina Cobra.

For those that doubt the existence of such a creature, feel free to view my video as well as my photos.

The music in the video is perfect. It fits it's old relation to Geauga Lake and making the move.

This is a great review! I really enjoyed reading it. I especially like the part about it chasing off some water creature. All ride reviews should be as entertaining as this one!

Thanks! I figured if I went the normal route it would be pretty boring considering that most people know what a boomerang does or if you don't, just take a look at the thing. lol

  4. Media Day was fun! Nice Review!
