“I have the great fortune to be part of the creative team on what will be the most innovative and unique rollercoaster ever conceived” – John Wardley, rollercoaster designer and ‘imagineer’

Alton Towers is launching Air, a world first £12m unique suspended rollercoaster that offers everyone an exhilarating, liberating ‘flying’ experience.

Throughout the centuries man’s passion for flying has manifested itself in all forms, from the ludicrous to the extreme.  20th century technology allowed humanity to experience flight as a means of transportation, but not flight in its purest and most exhilarating form.  The feeling and freedom of soaring through the air, birdlike – horizontal and face down, remained in the domain of a limited few, aided by parasail or suchlike. Now all that is about to change…

Assume the Position….

Air is truly innovative. Leaving the station in a horizontal position, dangling underneath the track, up, up and away you soar harnessed so snugly that you momentarily forget that you are restrained.  With the first breath-taking blast of fresh air, comes euphoria; exhilaration and liberation, so great that gravity becomes irrelevant.  From ground-scraping swoops to sky-soaring rolls; from stomach stalling falls to plunging dives through underground caverns – Air is the stuff of dreams.

Alton Towers is well known as the home of unique, groundbreaking rides.  It introduced Nemesis, the first suspended 'legs free' rollercoaster experience in 1994, then Oblivion, the first 'face first' vertical drop coaster in 1998.  Air was conceived some 12 years ago, and has only been structurally possible with the onset of new millennium technology.  The ride has been constructed by Swiss company Bolliger & Mabillard, the world’s leading bespoke coaster designers.

Alton Towers strongly recommends pre-booking – so click on www.altontowers.com or telephone 08705 20 40 60 for details of events, advance virtual queuing, family tickets etc
