Jun. 13th, 2005 -- LAKE GEORGE, NY - The Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom welcomes the arrival of Big Apple Circus performers on Saturday, June 18, with a fun contest from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to benefit the Double H Ranch, a Hole in the Wall Camp for critically ill children.
Visitors to The Great Escape will have an opportunity to win four tickets to the Big Apple Circus Double H Ranch gala performance on Saturday, July 2, by guessing the correct number of apples that have been piled into the back of a pick-up truck. The Great Escape has teamed up with the New York State Apple Commission, which will supply thousands of apples to help fill the bed of a Nemer Ford truck. The contest will take place in front of the Poland Springs Plunge in Ghost Town. Entertainment will include a live radio broadcast as well as clowns from the Big Apple Circus’s Circus to Go! Making its Spa debut, the Big Apple Circus will perform in Saratoga Springs from June 29 to July 4 to benefit the Double H Ranch. Co-founded by Charles R. Wood, founder of The Great Escape, and actor Paul Newman, the Ranch is a not-for-profit year round camp facility that provides an outdoor Adirondack adventure for 6-18 year-olds with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. The Big Apple Circus’s all-new show, Picturesque, is a joyful palette of movement, rhythm, color, light and sound – reflecting the spirit that has long drawn the world’s greatest artists to the emotional immediacy of the circus. Artists Renoir, Degas, Chagall, Toulouse–Lautrec, Calder, and Picasso all offered their visions of the wonder under the Big Top, in pen and ink, oil and charcoal, pastel and watercolor, and sculpture — and now the Big Apple Circus brings their art to life with acrobats, jugglers, birds, horses, flying men and women, and clowns. The Big Apple Circus will present a special performance and celebration gala to support the Double H Ranch on Saturday, July 2, at the Saratoga Gaming and Raceway. All ticket proceeds will directly benefit critically ill children and families associated with the Ranch. Tickets to the gala celebration, which include a special 4 p.m. performance and dinner, are available for $150. Tickets for the stand-alone July 2 performance cost $15 to $35. Tickets are available by calling the Double H Ranch at (518) 696-5921. Ten Big Apple Circus Picturesque performances will be held at the Saratoga Gaming and Raceway, from June 29 to July 4. Tickets are $15 to $35 and are available through Ticketmaster at (518) 476-1000, ticketmaster.com and at all Ticketmaster outlets. The Big Top is air-conditioned in warm weather for all-season comfort.
