Oh my god that is terrible. I can't believe that kid got on though. That height requirement is too short. it should be at least 48 inches.

That is terrible. I agree they should raise the height requirement. The Disney theme parks have been having lots of trouble with deaths and injuries in there rides. I just heard on my local news that the boy was from my area.

I wonder if the child had a seisure (sp?) or something while on the ride.
That's very sad though.

Wow, that is horrible. Maybe he had a clot in his brain, or an aneurysm?

Maybe the park will add an age limit to the ride also. Something like "You must be 10 or older to ride this ride".

That is very sad. He must have had a pre existing condition though.

Ouch, this will definitely give disney a bad reputation. All I can say is that I feel another ride related multi million dollar lawsuit brewing soon.

The problem with an age requirement would of course be that kids don't have easy ID like adults do most of the time (I could be wrong and there might be state IDs for kids under 16 in some areas, but I'm not aware of them).
It would be better if Disney posted on the "this ride not recommended for" board something like "not recommended for guests under the age of 8" or so. 8-10 is when most children start being able to handle rides with greater intensity. I'm sure some of you might have been younger, but even looping coasters scared me before I was 8 and seemed very intense.

This is very sad. I really don't know who to be upset with. Disney because of the height thing, or the parents because why take a 4 year old on that kind of ride.
I have been to Epoct one time, the second year it was opened, and honestly, I was board to death. I never, ever would have thought about taking my girls there until they were in their teens, and then only if they cared about science. I just think a four year old should be riding rides like Dumbo, It's A Small World, etc. But that's just my opinion.
It's hard who to blame, there is just no right answer. I'd like to blame the parents, but my grandfather took me on The Thriller when I was 5 or 6 and back then that would be like letting a 5 or six year old ride TTD. LOL!
Anyway, it's so sad. I just don't know what to think.

Based on a paragraph in this story: http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/14/dis...h.ap/index.html it sounds as though the boy may have suffered a trauatic brain injury. It sounds like he had a full-body seizure, whether the seizure caused the brain injury or vice versa, I cannot say.

That is just awful. I can't believe a 4 year old was riding that. When I was 4, I was barely riding the rides that were designed for 4 year olds, much less something like Mission:Space. The line in the article that really got me was his mother carrying him out of the ride herself to a bench. That almost brought tears to my eyes.

On CBS news last night, they had a comment from Ed Markey. They also had footage of Revolution, Millenium Force and Flashback, yes Flashback @ SFMM, running.

The local media is really raising up a storm about this. There are lots of reporters at the boys house talking about what happened. One of the reporters also said amusement rides are very dangerous and shoud be not be ridden. This was not something that would normally happen. Gotta love the media.

There was an article about the incident in the Philadelpia Inquirer today. It said that Florida has very lax inspection requirements.

If a park has at least 1000 employees here, the state doesn't inspect them.
Our fine government for ya.
