News: Wave House at Belmont Park to open

Jun. 15th, 2005 -- When the waves aren't big enough at the beach, San Diego area surfers have another option. Tomorrow Wave House, part of the Belmont Park amusement complex, holds its grand opening, with a new wave machine designed for surfing taking center stage.

The wave machine, called Bruticus Maximus creates a tube of water that stays in one place and a never-ending water ramp, intended for surfing competitions and demonstrations. The Wave House also includes a private beach, a restaurant, and a music stage.

Wave House is owned by Tom Lochtefeld, co-founder of the Raging Waters waterparks. He calls Wave House "America's first-ever surf park".
